David City Airport Grows
The Enlargement of the service platform of the Enrique Malek will allow the reception of more planes, including a Boeing 737.
The platform of the Airport Enrique Malek -where the planes park to receive gas and maintenance- will increase its capacity starting from March 2009.
Ines Esquivel, regional director of the Aeronautical Civil Authority (ACA), explained that the platform will now have the capacity to welcome 6 planes of 50 passengers and a Boeing 737 of 200 passengers at the same time.
"The current platform only has 3 positions and adding 420 square meters we will make it 6, declared Esquivel.
The present size of the platform is a limitation, because if a Boeing 737 arrives Chiriquí, the entrance of the rest of the domestic flights was hindered, explained Esquivel.
The investment, of 380 thousand dollars is related to the change of the gas tanks that will no longer be underground to be installed in an aerial way for environmental dispositions. In aerial installations it is easier to detect a spill and control it and with less difficulty, explained.
The tanks are constructed by Petroleos Delta.
From Monday to Friday in the David Airport there are 12 daily flights among the two domestic airlines towards the city. Meanwhile on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays there are 4 flights going to Colon Island and Changuinola. Also M-W-F days there's a flight to San Jose, Costa Rica, the only international flight.
The ACA will extend in medium term the terminal that in the present has an arrival capacity of up to 100 passengers.

Saladinos jump of 8.34 meters was below his best this year but today it was enough to grab the Gold.
Panama is estatic and knowing this country he will recieve a hero's welcome on his return and who knows maybe even a national holiday.
